Official CLAT 2027 Notification and Registration Timeline
The Consortium of National Law Universities (consortiumofnlus.ac.in) is expected to release the official CLAT 2027 notification in the first week of July 2026. That notification opens registration. Registration usually runs from July to October 2026, so you have enough time to apply online.
Fill the application form with care and mark your NLU preferences correctly. These preferences decide your seat during allotment. The exam is on Sunday, December 6, 2026, in offline pen-and-paper (OMR) mode. Keep this December 2026 timeline in view and plan your preparation in phases: first finish the syllabus, then move to intensive mock tests.
CLAT Latest Pattern 2027: What the Paper Looks Like
The CLAT 2027 pattern is unchanged: 120 questions in 120 minutes, offline. Each correct answer gets 1 mark. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. The whole paper is passage-based, so you must read fast and think quickly. It has five sections:
- English Language (22-26 questions): reading passages, drawing inferences and vocabulary.
- Current Affairs including General Knowledge (28-32 questions): national and international events, their background, and legal developments from the last 18 months.
- Legal Reasoning (28-32 questions): spotting a legal principle and applying it to a set of facts. No prior legal knowledge is needed.
- Logical Reasoning (22-26 questions): arguments, premises and logical fallacies.
- Quantitative Techniques (10-14 questions): basic data interpretation, graphs and caselets up to Class 10 level.
To do well, build the stamina to read and absorb nearly 28-30 long passages within the two-hour limit.
NLU Seat Matrix & Admission Updates
Seats at the 24 NLUs that admit through CLAT are hard to get. They are split by state quota, gender reservation and category. Top NLUs like NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad and WBNUJS Kolkata need very high percentiles.
Recent NLU admission data shows that a seat in the top 3 NLUs usually needs a score well above 90 out of 120. The exact cutoff depends on how hard the paper is.
