🥇 CLAT + AILET Specialist — 14+ Years, 1000+ Selections

Getting into one of India's top National Law Universities (NLUs) starts with one exam: the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). Competition grows every year, so every serious aspirant needs to follow the latest CLAT updates. CLAT 2027 tests reading, thinking and legal sense, not rote memory. That calls for a clear, well-planned approach. In this guide, Megha Sharma, Director at Surya Law Academy, Chandigarh, explains all you need to know about the coming exam cycle.

CLAT 2027 is set for December 6, 2026, for the 2027-28 academic session. The Consortium of National Law Universities conducts it. Tens of thousands of students compete for a limited number of seats across 26 NLUs. Starting early, and preparing from the latest official syllabus and pattern, is what sets the toppers apart. Whether you are in school or taking a drop year, match your daily study plan to the current exam format.

Surya Law Academy in Sector 25-D, Chandigarh, has coached law aspirants since 2012. That is 14+ years of experience and more than 1000+ selections. Our top results include Saransh Kumar (CLAT AIR 25, NLSIU Bangalore) and Ananya Sharma (CLAT AIR 32, NLSIU Bangalore). Our classroom program is built around the latest CLAT 2027 pattern.

💡 The key to cracking CLAT 2027 is fast reading with sharp understanding, because 100% of the paper is passage-based.

Official CLAT 2027 Notification and Registration Timeline

The Consortium of National Law Universities (consortiumofnlus.ac.in) is expected to release the official CLAT 2027 notification in the first week of July 2026. That notification opens registration. Registration usually runs from July to October 2026, so you have enough time to apply online.

Fill the application form with care and mark your NLU preferences correctly. These preferences decide your seat during allotment. The exam is on Sunday, December 6, 2026, in offline pen-and-paper (OMR) mode. Keep this December 2026 timeline in view and plan your preparation in phases: first finish the syllabus, then move to intensive mock tests.

CLAT Latest Pattern 2027: What the Paper Looks Like

The CLAT 2027 pattern is unchanged: 120 questions in 120 minutes, offline. Each correct answer gets 1 mark. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. The whole paper is passage-based, so you must read fast and think quickly. It has five sections:

  1. English Language (22-26 questions): reading passages, drawing inferences and vocabulary.
  2. Current Affairs including General Knowledge (28-32 questions): national and international events, their background, and legal developments from the last 18 months.
  3. Legal Reasoning (28-32 questions): spotting a legal principle and applying it to a set of facts. No prior legal knowledge is needed.
  4. Logical Reasoning (22-26 questions): arguments, premises and logical fallacies.
  5. Quantitative Techniques (10-14 questions): basic data interpretation, graphs and caselets up to Class 10 level.

To do well, build the stamina to read and absorb nearly 28-30 long passages within the two-hour limit.

NLU Seat Matrix & Admission Updates

Seats at the 24 NLUs that admit through CLAT are hard to get. They are split by state quota, gender reservation and category. Top NLUs like NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad and WBNUJS Kolkata need very high percentiles.

Recent NLU admission data shows that a seat in the top 3 NLUs usually needs a score well above 90 out of 120. The exact cutoff depends on how hard the paper is. That is why regular practice matters so much. Our top rankers, Saransh Kumar (CLAT AIR 25) and Ananya Sharma (CLAT AIR 32), credit two things: knowing how the cutoffs move each year, and focused practice that raises accuracy.

Strategic Preparation Plan by Megha Sharma

Megha Sharma, Director at Surya Law Academy (Gold Medalist B.A. LL.B and LL.M from Panjab University, UGC NET Law qualified), suggests a three-phase plan for CLAT 2027:

  • Phase 1: Concepts and reading habit (Months 1-6). Read a good newspaper such as The Hindu or The Indian Express every day. This builds reading speed and vocabulary. Learn basic legal concepts and logical reasoning patterns.

  • Phase 2: Section practice and current affairs (Months 7-12). Work through section-wise tests. Cover current affairs for the 18 months before the exam.

  • Phase 3: Mock tests and analysis (Months 13-18). Solve at least 200+ mock tests. Review every mock to find weak areas, fix your timing and cut negative-marking mistakes.

At Surya Law Academy, you get updated hardcopy study material and a mock test series that matches the real exam.
